By popular demand (aka a couple of requests) I checked out another chain burrito joint. I had been to Qdoba a couple of times before, mostly when coworkers wanted to hit it for a quick and dirty lunch.
Although there are multiple locations in the city, today's topic of discussion is located on busy 15th and Walnut.
I guess I should have expected a line, but I didn't. After the people in front of me left because it was too long, I decided to stick it out for the five minutes it took to get to the assembly line.
Same type of deal as Chipotle. Pick a vessel (taco, salad, burrito or nachos), protein, and toppers.
The ingredients are fresh, and they are not stingy with the portions. There is something so satisfying about eating a burrito the size of a football.
In all of its glory.
I went for the Ancho Chili BBQ burrito with grilled chicken. Also, a couple kinds of salsa (pico, corn, and habanero), black beans, cheese, sour cream, and lettuce. The sauce was surprisingly good, with a rich, sweet and smokey flavor that was like a cross between Sweet Baby Ray's and mole with an emphasis on the mole side.
I actually really liked the flavor that this sauce brought to the fiesta. It was an improvement over the (also good) usual burrito. This was exactly what I wanted it to be. Cheap, fresh, filling. No complaints (except that they ripped the tortilla in the middle on during the roll up).
I also had a shredded beef burrito as a control subject, to make sure it was not just hunger that made me love the other version. Nope. Ancho chili wins all day.
