Yumtown Food Truck

I had not even heard of Yumtown USA before, so when I stumbled over to Girard Fest yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised/excited to eat my second lunch.

As I had already eaten two breakfasts and one lunch (I had been up since 5am and riding bikes), I didn't order the entire menu, though I wish I would have. The pulled pork had my attention, as I am a huge fan of the pork products of Lancaster County, and with a choice of sauces, I was trapped.

You place an order, the nice lady takes your money and you wait – pretty standard food truck practice. They also offered an organic cornmeal and chive corn dog, but that one will have to wait until our next meeting.

It took less than five minutes to get my sandwich. For $5, it was a healthy portion.

By healthy, I mean monster.

This was, without exaggeration, one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have had, my own included. Not quite smoked-pulled pork, the sweet braised meat was exceptional. It had the requisite crispy bits, and a cool red cabbage slaw. I went with the spicy Carolina-style sauce, which could have been a bit spicier, but I have a much higher threshold for heat than the average sandwich eater.

Overall, this is one of the best values I have had in quite some time. I can't say enough about the tender, sweet pork, and once I uncover the mystery of Yumtown, I will be sure to go back. Does anyone know anything about these guys (and gals)?

They're at Penn Treaty Park a lot. They were at Hope Street Block Party and killed it (in a good way). I love Yumtown!

Yumtown spends most of its time at Temple University at 13th and Norris. It can also be found at various street festivals throughout Philly including Night Market.

12I shared a the To-Boy sandwich that was the best vegetarian sandwich I have ad in a long time. I was forced to share with my vegan daughter, but later delighted in my decision.

My wife and I recently hired Yumtown to provide appetizers and a late night nacho bar for our wedding at Globe Dye Works in Philadelphia. Andrew and Lanie were completely professional, had innovative ideas and worked with our main catering company to make sure that all of the food would work well together while leaving room for their creativity in design and taste. I was elated at the quality and quantity of food that was available and I look forward to working with Yumtown for future events! Since the wedding I have spoken with several family members and close friends who thought Yumtown’s appetizers stood out as one of the a memorable highlights of our reception.
